Kerr High School Orchestra

Orchestra Director-Cynthia King

Cynthia King-Orchestra Director

I have been teaching for over 30 years. My undergrad degree is from Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri and I received my Masters from the University of Memphis. Having double certification in instrumental and choral music, I have taught in a variety of musical genres in Tennessee including Elementary General Music, Choir, Band, and Orchestra. My 7th/8th-grade Full Orchestra students were invited to play at the 400th Anniversary of the founding of Jamestown, VA. In addition, they performed with the Virginia Symphony with former president George W. Bush conducting one of the pieces. During my 1487654321 years at Kerr, my Orchestras have received numerous UIL Sweepstakes awards, Region Orchestra placement and advancement to the Texas State Solo & Ensemble Competition (TSSEC) in Austin, TX. In addition, several students have been selected by audition to perform in New York at Carnegie Hall. I am extremely proud of the students who continue in my program. Many former students are now music educators themselves, helping to carry on the proud tradition of excellence that they developed in the Kerr Orchestra program.
